Menopause and Your Mental Health: What Nobody Tells You

Hot flushes and night sweats get most of the attention when we talk about menopause. And yes, those physical symptoms can be difficult and disruptive. But the mental and emotional impact of menopause — the anxiety that arrives from nowhere, the brain fog, the loss of confidence, the grief for a younger self, the sense that you don't recognise yourself anymore — can be equally profound, and is far less often discussed.

    The Hormonal Rollercoaster

During perimenopause and menopause, fluctuating levels of oestrogen and progesterone affect the brain's chemistry directly. Oestrogen plays a key role in regulating mood, memory, and cognitive function. As levels drop and fluctuate, many women experience anxiety, depression, irritability, poor concentration, and disturbed sleep — often without understanding why.

This is not weakness. This is biology. And it is something that can be supported and managed effectively.

    The Identity Shift

Beyond the hormonal changes, menopause often coincides with significant life transitions — children leaving home, changing relationships, a shift in sense of purpose and identity. Many women describe a profound questioning of who they are and what they want from this next chapter of their lives. This is real, and it deserves to be taken seriously.

    How RTT Can Help

RTT hypnotherapy can be remarkably effective in supporting women through menopause — not by treating the physical symptoms directly, but by addressing the emotional and psychological dimensions of this transition.

Working at the subconscious level, RTT helps to release anxiety, rebuild confidence and self-worth, process the emotional aspects of this life change, and create new, positive beliefs about who you are and what this chapter of your life can hold. Many of my clients describe a shift not just in their emotional wellbeing, but in their overall relationship with themselves.

EFT Tapping is also a wonderful complementary tool for managing the moment-to-moment emotional symptoms of menopause — reducing anxiety, improving sleep, and restoring a sense of calm.

If you're navigating menopause and struggling emotionally, please know that support is available. You don't have to white-knuckle your way through this.
